Girls' Day 2024 at X-Net

As one of around 135 companies in Upper Austria, we had the opportunity to give four young girls an insight into technical careers as part of Girls' Day. “In our 25-year history, we have found that the best solutions often come from diverse teams. A balanced gender distribution opens up a broader spectrum of perspectives and approaches to solutions,” says Nikolaus Dürk, founder and managing director of X-Net.

At X-Net, there is no place for outdated clichés, which is reflected in all areas of our work. Equal opportunities are a matter of course, and diversity is seen as a strength. After all, who wants to be presented with outdated approaches in the world of individual digitalisation solutions?

In addition to an introduction to career profiles and activities in the fields of network and systems engineering and software development, the girls had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills by creating a small website and a coding quiz, as well as by dismantling a PC. In between, they enthusiastically watched the creation of individual 3D prints, which they were able to take home with them as a souvenir of the day.

“We are delighted that four girls out of a total of 824 have decided to spend a taster day with us at X-Net again this year! Their voluntary interest in this initiative, which is not mandatory for schools, made this day an unforgettable experience for us,” says Astrid Lenk, HR manager and organiser of Girls' Day at X-Net.

By the way: Girls' Day is an annual event designed to encourage girls to explore careers in technology and science. It helps to increase the proportion of female professionals in traditionally male-dominated professions and counteract a predicted shortage of skilled workers. Boys' Day serves as a counterpart to Girls' Day.
