Digital-Days-2024

As part of Digital Days 2024, Wolfgang Eibner (X-Net) and Andrew Lindley (AIT Austrian Institute of Technology) spoke about the Fake-Shop Detector. In the workshop entitled ‘Consumer protection on the internet through human-centred AI’, they explained how the successful digital solution works and how it was developed, highlighting the special role of the ‘human-in-the-loop’ approach.

The tool's success proves its worth – the security service has already received several awards, including the IT business award ‘eAward’, the State Prize for Digitalisation 2024 and the Constantinus Award. Most recently, the Fake-Shop Detector was the Austrian winner in a test conducted by the independent system testing expert AV-Comparatives. 35 international cyber security products were tested for their effectiveness against fake shops. The excellent rating of a solution ‘made in Austria’ also underlines the great importance of funding for Austrian security research – because the development work was financed by funds from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance in the KIRAS security research programme.
